Although there were fire drums to keep people warm, there was also the option for audience members to stay in their cars and listen to the video’s soundtrack via a live feed on Tune FM. Earlier in the afternoon, several local bands performed on a mobile stage at the nearby skatepark, making for a really diverse audience.

Hiromi Tango will conduct FREE workshops to create a collaborative screen from articles donated by the Armidale community. Please bring objects that speak to you of ‘home’ ( eg. textiles, photos, memorabilia, quirky artefacts and other materials ) and get involved. The final collaborative artwork will then be on display, including portraits of people in the Armidale community being projected on to the screen.

Craig Walsh has taken video portraits of Alice Springs locals and they are currently being edited into a new artwork. The public are invited to come and view Craig’s latest work HOME (Alice Springs):

The infamous wall near KFC on Todd St will speak up with a diverse portrait of local people’s views on what “home” means to them. HOME can be seen as a counterpoint to the misery portrayed in the media and a way of reinterpreting and transforming the so called “Apartheid zones”.

Their first port of call will be the Wide Open Space festival where you can meet up with them and be a part of an artwork called Who’s Average. You will also see Craig’s large scale projection works at the festival.

Find out about this project and what inspired Craig to take on a nomadic existence – Craig will be giving a free public talk at the Charles Darwin University theatrette at 1pm on Wednesday 27^th April.

Following that the Digital Odyssey team will be recording ‘video portraits’ of local people talking about what defines ‘home’ for them. Have your say on this topic and be part of the work!

Craig and Hiromi will shortly be climbing into the Digital Odyssey vehicle for the long drive to Alice Springs! They will be in Alice from 25 April until 15 May with opportunites for locals to meet them and become involved in the artworks.

Craig’s first appearance will be at Wide Open Space Festival where he’ll present some of this large scale works and also take portraits for an ongoing work. Drop by and get involved!
